Purpose
This curriculum prepares individuals to work with school-age children in diverse learning environments. The curriculum is specifically designed for students planning to work in public or private school-age careenvironments.
Course work includes child growth/development; physical/nutritional needs of school-age children; care and guidance of school-age children; and communication skills with parents and children. Students will foster thecognitive/language, physical/motor, social/ emotional, and creative development of school-age populations.
Successful completers are prepared to plan and implement developmentally appropriate activities in school-age environments. Employment opportunities include school-age teaching or school-age administration positions in child care/development programs, group leaders, before and after school programs, recreational centers and other programs that work with school-age populations.

- Criminal Background Check: Students entering any Early Childhood Practicum are required to undergo a criminal background check and/or drug testing prior to participation at the practicum site. Students should be aware that their progress to completion might be limited by an inability to complete the practicum portion of the program. Additionally, students are responsible for submitting appropriate and required documentation to their practicum site director. The student is responsible for the scheduling and costs associated with completing this requirement and mandatory tests such as TB tests.
