Tardy/Absence Policy
The College defines a tardy as a student entering class after the roll is checked or after instruction has begun, and it shall also be defined as a student leaving class early regardless of the reason. Three tardies constitute a recorded absence. If a student is in class less than 80% of the scheduled class time, he/she will be marked absent. These absences will count toward overall attendance for the class as outlined above.
Students who have not entered class by the census date (10% point of the class) will be dropped as “Never Attend” without the possibility of reinstatement. Entrance into a face-to-face class is defined as attending at least one face-to-face class meeting before the census date. Entrance into an online class is defined as logging into the institution’s learning management system (LMS) and completing the required enrollment activity prior to the census date. Entrance into a hybrid or blended class is defined as attending at least one face-to-face class meeting or completing the required enrollment activity prior to the census date. Failure to attend class or complete the required enrollment activity prior to the census date will result in the student being dropped from the course. If the student does not attend class by the census date, the student will not be allowed to enter the course. Once a student is officially enrolled in a class, regular participation is expected. This may include, but not be limited to, OEMS Education Institution approval, program director and instructor standards, classroom and distance education course approval, admissions requirements, course content, equipment standards, clinical and/or field requirements, and skills documentation. OEMS guidelines align with the rules of the NC Medical Care Commission and standards of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration. For details, contact the Education and Credentialing Office of the NC Office of Emergency Medical Services, NC Department of Health and Human Services.
Requirements for admission: 17 years of age on or before the official end date of the course. Possession of a high school diploma, high school equivalency or successful completion of an exam assessing basic reading comprehension skills at a minimum at the twelfth-grade level.

The RCC Attendance Policy and Procedure: Students must attend 90% of the required contact hours for class/lab and 100% of clinical/field hours in order to receive credit for the class.
Lack of participation is a serious deterrent to good scholarship, and it is impossible to receive instruction, obtain knowledge, or develop skills when students are disengaged from the course.
Graduation requirements: Students must maintain a course average of 77% and pass all high stakes cognitive, affective, and summative evaluations within two attempts. Students must complete all lab practice evaluations in FISDAP. Students must complete 48 field clinical hours with a total of 10 patient assessments.

Instructors may allow students to complete/submit assignments in a delivery mode other than the primary delivery mode of the class to demonstrate course progression with the exception of the required enrollment activity for online, hybrid and blended courses.
